Every Boss and Where to Find Them

There are 13 boss or boss-style encounters in Well Dweller, and finding them all matters for abilities, story progress, and post-game cleanup. The Groundskeeper starts the journey, while the Queen closes it out in Queen's Castle. Most of the middle route opens through exploration, new movement tools, and area-specific gates.

The roster below gives each title-card boss and its associated area. These locations are useful when you are retracing your steps after opening shortcuts or returning for missed rewards.

BossAreaWhere to begin looking
The GroundskeeperNight GardenOne room right of the Night Garden Bottom tent
The SwarmThe BogRight of the Bog Top tent after unlocking the route
Lady of the DrainsThe DrainsRepair the central elevator with all three Elevator Parts
Lida the TerribleGraven ValleyFollow the lower shortcut after getting the Witch Burning Ticket
Shrine of the Seven SonsMidnight DrenchA short distance left of the Center tent

Silver DollQueen's CastleIn the castle’s interior routes and shortcut network

A few names deserve special attention during completion runs. The Colony has been associated with both The Deep and The Drains in community route information, but The Deep is the more specific listing. If you do not find it immediately, check your map connections and revisit The Drains after gaining later traversal upgrades.

The Queen's Castle holds both Silver Doll and the final Queen encounter. Do not assume that beating Silver Doll ends the game. It is a late-game milestone, while the Queen remains the story’s final battle.

Boss Order and Encounter Types

The beginning and end of the boss route are clear: The Groundskeeper is first, The Swarm follows in The Bog, Silver Doll appears late, and The Queen is last. The exact sequence through much of the middle can vary with exploration and has not been officially confirmed as one fixed linear order.

Route pointEncounterWhat it means
First bossThe GroundskeeperIntroduces the game’s boss structure in Night Garden
Second bossThe SwarmDefeating it opens important traversal progress
Mid-gameSeveral area bossesTheir practical order depends on unlocked routes and objectives
Late gameSilver DollA Queen's Castle encounter before the ending
Final bossThe QueenCompletes the main story battle

The Swarm is especially important because its victory is tied to Climb and Tent Travel. If your map seems to be closing off progress early, make sure you have completed The Bog path rather than searching for a later boss out of sequence.

Not every major encounter follows the usual “reduce the health bar to zero” structure. Well Dweller includes chases and a story resolution that plays differently from a standard kill.

  • Forest King is won over rather than simply defeated.
  • The Queen can be encountered in an escape sequence before the final battle.
  • Webdrench Inn features a chase tied to escaping danger rather than winning a normal arena fight.
  • The final Queen fight concludes with a scripted sequence after her last health threshold.

That distinction matters when tracking completion. A chase can feel like a boss scene, but it is not another title-card entry beyond the 13 listed above. Likewise, the Forest King encounter still counts even though its resolution is more compassionate than a conventional victory.

The demo also contains an additional Groundskeeper arena. Whether that becomes a second full progression encounter in every retail route has not been officially confirmed. For practical completion, count The Groundskeeper once unless your in-game tracker or achievements indicate otherwise.

Health Values, Phases, and Fight Preparation

Only a few bosses have published starting health values. Treat these as opening health amounts, not necessarily the total damage required to finish every encounter. Phase transitions and scripted endings can change how a fight resolves.

Creature from the Deep280 HP370 HP370 HPFound in The Docks after collecting three Pearls
Starsinger540 HP570 HP570 HPHas a second phase
The Queen900 HP1,100 HP1,200 HPEnds through a scripted final sequence

Starsinger changes phase at 225 HP or lower on Easy, or 285 HP or lower on Normal and Hard. When you cross that line, leave yourself room to react instead of continuing an aggressive string. The transition itself signals that the fight is changing, and the next phase begins after it completes.

The Queen has the most unusual finale. In her second round, another attack stage begins below 300 HP on Easy or below 400 HP on Normal and Hard. A further stage begins below 200 HP on every difficulty. Near the end, she does not behave like a normal boss who simply dies at zero health.

Once the Queen drops below 50 HP in her second-round sequence, she can remain at a minimum of 49 HP until you advance the final scripted block. Move close enough to trigger the sequence rather than waiting for more damage to solve it. The scene eventually leads to zero HP and the next story event.

For the rest of the roster, strong fundamentals matter more than memorizing a universal build:

  • Enter with a nearby tent activated so retries are quick.
  • Spend a first attempt watching movement patterns instead of forcing damage.
  • Save healing opportunities for attacks that are difficult to avoid consistently.
  • Use open arena space; corners are usually more dangerous than they look.
  • Return later if a route feels overwhelming and you have another unexplored biome.
  • Check whether an arena requires an item, ticket, elevator repair, pearls, or an unlocked gate before assuming you missed the boss.

Flaming Vessel is considered a particularly powerful offensive option for players pursuing fast clears. It can make several fights much easier when used repeatedly, but it should not replace movement discipline. A safe opening, a clear escape lane, and patience during unfamiliar attack cycles will carry further than rushing every damage window.

Boss Rush is intended to let players revisit bosses they have already beaten. This makes it a good place to practice difficult patterns without disrupting a completion route. Platform availability for Boss Rush has not been officially confirmed across every version, so check the mode list in your own release before planning around it.

FAQ

How many bosses are in Well Dweller?

Well Dweller has 13 named bosses or boss-style sequences. The full list starts with The Groundskeeper and ends with The Queen.

What is the first boss?

The Groundskeeper is the first confirmed boss. You find the fight in Night Garden by heading one room right from the Bottom tent.

What boss is second?

The Swarm is the second confirmed boss. It is in The Bog and is important because its victory grants Climb and Tent Travel.

Is The Queen the final boss?

Yes. The Queen is the final story battle in Queen's Castle. Silver Doll is also in Queen's Castle, but it comes before the Queen’s final encounter.

Does Forest King count as a boss?

Yes. Forest King is one of the 13 encounters, even though the encounter is resolved by winning the king over rather than defeating it in the usual way.

What is the easiest way to use this well dweller all bosses list?

Use the area table to identify your next missing encounter, activate the closest tent, then verify any required route item before traveling there. Leave Queen's Castle for late-game cleanup unless you are already progressing through the final story route.
